Exciting Radio News!
I’m so happy that my album, “Joy Mover,” is getting so much airplay around the country. The CD has just been added to WPFW in Washington, DC, WICN in Worcester, Massachusetts, WAER in Syracuse, NY and KNTU in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.. And it has been moved into heavy rotation at Jackson, Mississsippi’s WJSU!! Big thanks to everyone for their support.
Joy Mover Listed As Top 1% on LinkedIn!
Apparently I’ve done something that landed me in the top 1% of profiles viewed on LinkedIn. While it’s not exactly what I was going for (LOL), if you’re in the ‘Biz’ and haven’t LinkedIn to my page yet, nor I to yours, please do!
TONIGHT: Joy Mover on Desert Island Jazz!
A giant thanks to my friend, David May on WHFC! Tune in tonight starting at 6 PM on the east coast!
Clark “Mumbles” Terry, accompanied by Johnny Hartman, will be on Desert Island Jazz this evening, along with Coleman Hawkins and Red Garland. Lots of contemporary artists as well, including vocalists Joy Mover and Monica Ramey. Playlist and stream link here: www.desertislandjazz.net.
We’re on The Standards Channel
I’m thrilled to report that 4 of my recordings have been added to The Standards Channel. Tune in online and you’re likely to hear “Nature Boy,” “Corcovado,” “Fever,” and “Dream a Little Dream of Me.”
When I was discussing the airplay with Jim Raposa, creator of The Standards Channel, I told Jim that “this could be the start of a beautiful cyber-friendship.” Jim wondered if Bogie and Bergman made “Casablanca” in the digital age, would this classic line have ended up as a status update on Facebook?
Welcome to the modern age, I guess… 🙂
Heading down to NYC
I’m really excited to be heading down to NYC on Wednesday. I’ll be going to the Jazz Connect conference where I’ll get to meet and hang with some of the key ‘movers and shakers’ of the jazz world. And I’m also going to catch as many of the artists performing at the Winter Jazz Festival as I can. I’ve made a playlist of music for the long train ride down from Boston.
Here’s a bit of what I’ll be listening to to get myself in a New York state of mind:
Sarah Vaughn: Lullabye of Birdland
That Old Feeling: Chet Baker
Laura Nyro: New York Tendaberry (more…)
Colorado Radio “Moved” By Debut CD From Joy Mover
When you think about Colorado, lots of things come to mind: mountain peaks, cowboys and wide open sky. But how about sultry, soothing jazz vocals? It may sound unusual, but that’s exactly what’s on the minds of eight radio stations throughout the state, all of which have begun playing songs from the self-titled debut album by Joy Mover. From Denver to Crested Butte and from Telluride to Ignacio, the album that All About Jazz lauded as “one very special dreamy debut, full of gorgeous love songs and standards with new twists all forged by a sultry soothing vocal approach” is growing the singer’s fan base in a state where country or rock musicians are far more likely to dominate the airwaves. (more…)
Powerful approach to the music…
This is the self-titled debut from singer/composer Joy Mover. It is a combination of tried and true standards and originals that touch many genres. She taps many fine musicians including colleagues from South Florida. Ira Sullivan and brother Bob Mover breathe warm tenor sax into a number of tunes, notably “‘Till There Was You.” Joy has a soft but powerful approach to the music, one that resonates well. You will certainly find something enjoyable in this set.
