Moving Jazz Pop by Joy Mover
A musician since childhood – the sixth musical generation in a long heritage of a musical family – Joy Mover has been honing her skills among some of the best and brightest in the modern jazz field for years. Now in 2013, she has released a debut album that has completely rocked my world this morning. Combining six original compositions with a few classics done in original ways, Joy has made a record that stands out in its field.
Striking lyrical emotion and balance combine with uncanny talent in Joy’s vocals and lyrics. Mix that up with flutes, saxes and horns by legendary Grammmy®-recognized Ira Sullivan, guitars by award winner John Paul, and a whole bus-load of top notch musicians providing a myriad of flavors to the tunes, and you’ve got a record that is deserving of serious credit. I will not be surprised at all to see the self-titled record make it to the top awards contests this year!
From traditional jazz to sweet island bossa novas and even a bit of rap, the record moves at a terrific pace. It makes me wish my back weren’t all out-of-whack and that I didn’t have so much to do, today – I’d just let it spin and
I’d just let it spin and dance for a while otherwise. Yeah, it’s that good.
Today is my first spin of Joy Mover, but it definitely won’t be the last!

Jazz Weekly: Introducing Joy Mover
“Joy Mover mixes her own modern sounding compositions with a handful of cleverly arranged standards on this upbeat disc that includes a team of Mike Levine/p, John Paul/g, Lee Levin-Lee Levin/dr and Jamie Ousley/b. Her takes of chestnuts like “Nature Boy” and “Dream a Little Dream of Me” have a nostalgic sense to them without being maudlin. Her voice, clear in delivery with a hint of nasal charm, includes warm harmonies on “Maria’s Song” and “Only The Wind” that keep the music enjoyable. A haunting spaciousness is evident on a lovely piece “Midnight Oil” that will keep drawing you in as well. Enjoyable”
